Tomatoes! High Tunnels! #CSA sign up!

We are making beds and laying plastic and drip tape in our High Tunnels today.  We are laying black plastic and red plastic.  The red plastic reflects the red rays in the sunlight back up to the tomato and encourages earlier ripening. We lay black plastic under the red to block light from reaching the soil. The red allows enough sunlight underneath to germinate weeds.  Also the black plastic gets too hot to touch in the high tunnels. The red is a much more manageable temperature.  Each bed has drip tape under the plastic for irrigation.  We can plant 64 tomato plants in each bed.  They will be spaced 18 inches apart in the row.  This house will hold 264 plants.  We have 4 high tunnels where we plant our early tomatoes.  It’s too early to plant now, even in the high tunnels.  Our target date is the 3rd week of March.  These will be the first tomatoes that show up in your CSA crate.  Remember to sign up for our #CSA and be part of Miller Farms.  33 consecutive weeks of fresh produce.  $3.57/day.  Sign up @millerfarmsmarket.com or at the Market on our farm 12101 Orange Plank Rd. Locust Grove Va.  See you at the farm!
