Question of the Day…. If Kate is your favorite corn and the Sweetest, why don’t you have it the whole season? Good question. We would have Kate at the beginning of the season if we could, but we can’t. Kate sweet corn seed will not germinate until the SOIL temps are 65 degrees or warmer. Usually we don’t get those SOIL temperatures until the beginning or middle of May. We start off with Bolt and Kickoff. Those 2 varieties will germinate when the SOIL temp is 50 degrees. Those varieties get planted at the end of March and all through April. We have 1 planting of Rosie, then everything else is Kate. We’ve been picking Kate for several weeks now and will pick Kate until the end of the season, which will probably be mid October.
