MILK delivery will be delayed tomorrow because of the ICE/SNOW in the forecast. South Mountain is anticipating they’ll be here around 10:30 am or so. We will post when MILK arrives. We have very little MILK here until the truck arrives.
What’s going on with the EGG MARKET?
Avian Flu outbreaks across the country are creating volatility and scarcity in the egg market. This is affecting egg supplies and egg prices everywhere including Miller Farms Market.
How is the EGG MARKET affecting MILLER FARMS MARKET?
1. We can’t meet the current demand for EGGS because our chickens are not a peak production in the winter season. Their production is increasing slowly. We have a LIMITED AMOUNT of Miller Farms EGGS.
2. Our EGG prices have always been a reflection of both the superior nutritional value of EGGS produced from pasture-raised chickens AND our rising input costs. For example, we purchased chicks in Fall 2022 at $1.80 per chick. Currently, the price for the same chicks is at $5.05 per chick, and we will no longer receive discounts for volume purchases of chicks. As a small business, our input costs for producing EGGS are higher than South Mountain Creamery, whose EGGS are also sold in our market.
What about South Mountain EGGS sold at MILLER FARMS MARKET? What can customers expect?
Like us, South Mountain has had to raise their EGG prices to reflect rising input costs in the EGG market. We are currently paying $9/dozen for EGGS from South Mountain. We are selling the South Mountain EGGS for $9/dozen, which means we are not making any profit from the sale of those EGGS. We’re currently selling those EGGS at COST. However, if South Mountain increases their prices again, we will have to sell the EGGS at those increased prices.
